Welcome to Stour Sailing Club in Manningtree
The Stour Sailing Club was formed in 1936 and is situated on the south bank for the River Stour in Manningtree. The clubhouse was purchased in 1970 and is in an enviable position facing the river. It features fabulous facilities incorporating a very friendly club bar with balcony, library, parlour, toilets & showers. Opposite the clubhouse on the waterfront, the club offers access to a short concrete slip leading to a gravel hard. Next to the hard youll find a compound with benches and a race starting hut. In the summer the compound is covered by a marquee and is used for regattas, social gatherings, sailing and rowing events.
Nearby, the club owns a lockable compound with power, water and a slipway with channel access and a quay suitable for loading and discharging kit and passengers tide permitting. This compound is also used for the storage of smaller boats during the season and laying up of larger vessels in the winter months.
The Club is home to a wide range of craft including sailing and motor cruisers, Micro class racers, dinghies and open boats, rowing skiffs, kayaks and canoes. A number of members fish in the estuary. The Club has an active Coastal Rowing Section and owns 2 Harkers Yard Gigs William Rose and Hunter. The club manages the lease for approximately 130 moorings in the area, including 3 visitor moorings and several pontoon berths off the main quayside. There is a pontoon berth available for up to an hour for unloading/loading and filling with water .
There is a programme of races for Micro class boats throughout the season and occasional races and social sails for cruisers. The Micro World Championships are held annually at the Club. The Regatta is the main sailing event, held in mid-summer. Club Rows take place twice a week throughout the year when tide and weather allow and interclub events include a Rowing Festival and Harkers Yard Gig Races. The club supports sail training, mainly for juniors, which takes place at neighbouring facilities. As well as events on the water there are also numerous social events throughout the year.
